Rampart

In this place of desolation a lonely rampart stands forged between a mountain and a machine, my heart is the castle and my mind is the sea, I am no captain, I sail no ships, I am no king, I command no armies, though the throne that stands before me bears my name, if I sit I shall crumble, a phrase etched into the glass of the cathedral, I am.

A sea of infinite wisdom floods the halls of my stronghold, corridors fill with memories and a crown begins to mold, I am no king, I do not dare to pick up the crown for when it rests upon the head, the shoulders decay and soul dies instead, etched in the walls of the keep, I am.

The courtyard breathes of the scent of putrid waste left behind by the scars of tomorrow, a fissure in time allowing flow between the here-and-now and what follows, I am no captain, I cannot set a course of action, a lighthouse in the dark beckons me out of the weather, the storms of my past keep me tethered, carved into the waves, I am.

If I am no king and I am no captain, then what am I? A wanderer in darkness is holding a lamp to light the way, a silent watcher feeling more alone everyday, but in the sea of demons, and the castle of hate, I stand proud of a phrase etched in the walls, and carved in the waves, “I am”.

We never walk this road alone, and for those who wish they could just go home, a castle awaits in a sea of desolation, like a lonely wall forged between the mind and the heart, I am an oasis in the desert so barren, I am rampart.

Cold and Alone

Justin Swerdloff

Eyes so blue,

They’ll freeze your soul.

Blood full of ice,

A heart of stone –

Cold and alone!

Winter means nothing,

When your gaze can chill.

Deep rooted hate,

A mind unknown –

Cold and alone!

When you feel,

You know it’s real.

When you see,

You believe.

When you hear,

It’s all so clear.

When you taste,

There’s no time to waste.

Eyes so empty,

They’ll break your spirit.

Frozen veins,

Filled with pain.

A heart of stone,

And a mind unknown.

Thoughts of darkness,

When you’re cold and alone!

In Search

Where do you begin to search for “did you find someone?”.
It’s like searching for the pink elephant in the wild.
I have said to myself that this person’s first lesson to you will be to keep in hope and never give up,
but now it feels more like a need and I feel lonely.
Alone.
I thought I searched for love, but instead I am in search of being loved, being wanted.
I believe that there is a person somewhere.
I just have to be open and kind.
For love itself shall come to you.
You cannot go to love or even bring love to you.
Try not to think about lonelyness, but rather hope and ask (gently).

And now we wait…

I Am Alone

By Douglas L.R. Hauge

.

Once upon a time I was not alone

I remember the joys of family

I remember childhood friends from a cherished past

I am alone

 .

Will there ever be another day of happiness in my life?

Will there be a day when I will always have friends who care?

Will ever again the words be spoken to me, “I love you”?

I am alone

.

I want to give my love

I want to care about someone else

I want to care about others

Most of all I want to be wanted

I am alone

.

My father is gone, my mother is gone

My wonderful wife is gone too

My daughter, oh what painful choices she has made for me to witness

Will that pain of despair ever end?

I am alone

.

I look at my hands and I look at myself

I look at my things and what I have done

I love this single human being who takes care of all that is me

I realize that my existence itself is a treasure

I am alone

.

This treasure that is me is very good

It is the gift of my life from my parents

They were good too

They loved me

I am alone

.

I do not know where they are or if they see me

But I know that I must care for the gift they gave me

A gift that my wonderful wife so much loved

I am worthy to live

I am alone

.

There must be a reason for the state that I am in

But I do not know what it is

Maybe I should not know

I know not what the future holds

I am alone

.

But the gift that was me that I was given

Is a precious gift that I must love and care for till the very end

And I must vigilant to touch the lives of those who may need me

Just a smile, a question of caring for someone else from me

Can make all the difference there is

I am alone

.

To be alone is to be like a soldier on the battlefield

Care not for myself and I will fall

Care for others, help others

And there is not more joy that I could bring to another or myself

I am alone but we are all one

.

The stars in the sky

The trees that grow

The birds that sing

The fish that swim

My brothers and sisters that are mankind

We are all one

We all struggle for this precious life

Love them and all that live

Realize that truth

And I am no longer alone

.

Looking Around

lurking in the shadows,
following close behind.
cannot be forgotten
and always on your mind.
when sleeping, always dreamed about
when awake, running your thoughts,
your life it corrupts
and mind it slowly rots.
when handled right it disappears,
without a single trace
but when it’s left alone
it’s always there to face
